Architectural History

The church was built in 1627-1630. The architect was the famous church and tower builder Werner Olsen Skurdal, who originally came from Nes ( Hedmark ). He was also involved in the expansion of the stave church Lom and the conversion of the idyllic location with and Lom Stave Church.

The Stave Church Fåvang was rebuilt and extended to a cruciform church, with most building materials came from the principles enshrined stave churches in the valley. Also an earlier stave church on the same site was used as a source of material. The church is not counted among the historic stave churches because of the extensive modifications.
