Favus

The Erbgrind (tinea favosa or favus ) is a dermatophytosis, which is characterized in the hair follicle by relatively deep penetration of the pathogen. The causative agent is the dermatophyte Trichophyton schoenleinii. The disease is now rare in Central Europe.

Clinically the disease is primarily in the area of head hair by a tightly adherent, yellowish -brown scaling. These " labels " ( scutula ) are lens size and consist of the hair follicles surrounding mycelium.

Treatment consists of antifungal drugs such as griseofulvin.
