Faxaflói

Faxaflói is a wide sweeping bay between the peninsulas of Snæfellsnes and Reykjanes in southwest Iceland. Literally translated, the name Faxa or Faxi Bay and Faxaflouii is pronounced.

Faxaflói is the largest Bay Islands and on its banks is Reykjavík, Iceland's capital. On clear days you can ignore much further, to the peninsula of Akranes pass across to Snæfellsjökul, which is located 120 km away. The southeastern arm Faxaflóis is the fjord Kollafjörður in which the island is Viðey. The Faxaflói is has always been a major fishing area and popular for year-round whale watching for several years.
