Fayl-Billot

Fayl -Billot, also Fayl- la- Forêt, is one of 18 municipalities and with 1434 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) the capital of the French canton Fayl -Billot in the Haute- Marne in the arrondissement of Langres, in the Champagne -Ardenne region.

Economy

Surrounded by a 50 acre growing area of wicker, which was founded in 1670 by a monk who Basketry ( wicker furniture and baskets ) and other smaller craft determine the economic power of the small town (2004: 1 511 inhabitants). As the center of the French Korbflechterhandwerks it has since 1906 a Korbflechterschule, the only one in France, the Ecole nationale d' Osiériculture et de Vannerie to the basket makers can also develop in other European countries. Their heyday was the basketry in Fayl -Billot in the 18th and 19th centuries.

Attractions

  • Catholic church of Notre -Dame. It was built in 1864 by Charles Godard and Antoine Gaetan Guerinot.
  • Showrooms with wickerwork in the Korbflechterschule
