The FK Sibir Novosibirsk (Russian Футбольный Клуб Сибирь Новосибирск ) is a Russian football club based in Novosibirsk, which plays in the Russian first division.

History

Soviet Championship

The club was founded in 1936. Novosibirsk played in 1937 in Group E of the Soviet League, from 1946 to 1947 in the second and third group and from 1964 to 1991 in the second and third Soviet league.

Russian Championship

After the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1992, the association launched under its former name Tschkalowez - FoKuMiS in the newly formed First Division Russian ( second highest league). Due to a reduction of the teams in the club two years later descended into the Second Division ( third highest league), but managed its chances of promotion. After another two years, Novosibirsk rose again from the second division. In 2000 the club merged with Olimpik Novosibirsk and launched under the new name Tschkalowez -1936 in the amateur league. After a season managed to rise again in the second division and 2004 even the climb back into the first division. Since the 2006 season, the club bears his current club name FK Sibir Novosibirsk. In the 2007 season FK Sibir missed the third place just under the rise in the Premjer League. The 2009 season ended the team to second in the table and thus made ​​the first ascent in the Russian elite class. In the 2010 season the team finished in last place and thus got back from the first Russian division.

Russian Cup

With the finals in the Russian Cup of the season 2009/10, Sibir qualified for the first time in club history for the UEFA Europa League, as the winner of the finale had Zenit St. Petersburg qualified for the UEFA Champions League.

Stadium

The club plays its home games at the 12,500 -seat stadium from Spartak, which was built in 1927.
