FCAPS

FCAPS is a model of the ISO network management. FCAPS defined the cornerstones of today's network management.

FCAPS is an acronym for the different tasks, in which the ISO network management divide: Fault Management, Configuration Management, Accounting Management, Performance Management, Security Management ( fault management, configuration management, accounting management, performance management, security management).

Overview

Fault Management / Fault Management

The goal of fault management is to detect, isolate, and resolve logging has occurred in the network errors. Isolating the fault says: In case of failure to be capable of detecting the common cause of the failure of lines (root cause analysis ).

Configuration Management / Configuration Management

Configuration management includes the following:

  • Collecting and storing configurations of network components
  • Simplify the configuration of a network component
  • Detection of change in the network configuration
  • Configuration of conductors or paths through the network or a part of the network (sub- network)

Accounting Management / Billing Management

The Accounting Management provides useful statistics on the use of network resources. Allow costs to be accounted for or controlled quotas.

For the accounting among other protocols RADIUS, TACACS and Diameter are used.

For non- cost-per- use networks, the term administration is used instead of accounting. Administration includes the management of users, passwords and access permissions.

Performance Management / Performance Management

Performance Management allows users to prepare the network for the future.

By collecting and analyzing performance data, the stability of the network can be monitored. Trends may indicate future problems with the capacity or the reliability of the network.

Security Management / Security Management

The first task of security management is the identification of all types of risk in the network. Furthermore, these risks must be protected and managed.
