Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme

The Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM ), in German also called World Motorcycle Association, is the supreme international motorcycle racing organization representing 90 national associations and is divided into six continental units.

From the FIM, the five disciplines circuit racing, motocross, trials, enduro and track racing are supervised and held 34 world championships. Away from active racing, the FIM has worked as a representative of motorcycle sport in the areas of marketing, security and politics.

The respective FMN are for transposition into national sports law (French: Fédération Motocyclisme National, national member federation of the FIM / UEM ), responsible.

The national sporting authority and the implementation of the FIM regulations is perceived in Germany by the German Motorsport Association, in Austria by the OSK and in Switzerland by the Federation of Switzerland of motorcyclists.

History

The FIM emerged from the Fédération Internationale des Clubs Motocyclistes ( FICM ), which was founded on December 21, 1904 in Paris. The British car -Cycle Union was one of the founding members. In July 1906, the Association was re-established in Pacov and 1907 temporarily resolved. In 1912, he was, well, re-established with headquarters in England. The Six Days Trial Reliabilty in the following year was the first international event of this new organization.

In 1949 the name was changed to the International Federation Motocycliste and it was the first season of the MotoGP World Championship. The headquarters of the Association in 1959 moved to Geneva, Switzerland. Since 1994, the FIM resides in the Swiss Mies in a motorcycle -inspired building.

1998, a new name change to Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme was decided at a conference in Cape Town. In the same year, the FIM was provisionally recognized by the International Olympic Committee in 2000 and received the official status as a member.
