Federica Pellegrini

Federica Pellegrini (* 5 August 1988 in Mirano ) is an Italian swimmer.

Career

With the World Swimming Championships 2003 in Barcelona, she went for the first time at a major international event at the start, but still without much success. But a year later, she won the silver medal in the 200 m freestyle at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens.

The following year she secured at the Short Course European Championships in 2005 in Trieste (Italy ), both the gold medal in the 200 m freestyle and the silver medal in the 400 m distance.

In the swimming world championships in 2007 in Melbourne originally presented in the semifinals to set a new world record in the 200 m freestyle. In 1:56,47 seconds they undercut the old record of Franziska van Almsick by almost two tenths of a second. Just one day later in the finals they lost the record to the Frenchwoman Laure Manaudou. Also Annika Lurz was faster in the same race, Pellegrini won the bronze medal.

At the 2008 European Championships in Eindhoven she put on 24 March 2008 4:01,53 seconds a new world record in the 400 meter freestyle, and thus secured the second gold medal in her career.

On 13 August 2008 she became the first Italian swimmer at the Olympic Games in Beijing Olympic champion over 200 meters freestyle in world record time of 1:54,82 minutes. About 400 meters freestyle she finished fifth.

In the Mediterranean Games in Pescara Pellegrini swam in June 2009 on the 400 -meter freestyle track 4:00,41 minutes and thus improved the lost to Britain's Joanne Jackson in March 2009 world record by two-tenths. Already on March 8, 2009, she had improved her own world record in the 200 meters freestyle at 1:54,47 minutes. With the World Swimming Championships 2009 in Rome she won on home soil gold over 200 and 400 meters freestyle each in world record time. With their victory over 400 meters, it also remained as the first woman under the 4 minute mark.

With the World Swimming Championships 2011 in Shanghai Pellegrini could defend their titles over 200 and 400 meters freestyle. She was then chosen by the Association of European sports journalists ( UEPS ) to Europe's Sportswoman of the Year.

Life

Pellegrini was successively romantically involved with Italian Luca Marin swimmers and Filippo Magnini.
