Fels am Wagram

Fels am Wagram is a market town with 2096 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the district of Tulln in Lower Austria. It is situated north of the Danube on the distinctive ridge of Wagram and is especially known for its viticulture.

Geography

Fels am Wagram is located 40 km west of Vienna and 15 km east of Krems on the Danube, on the northern edge of the Tulln field directly above the Wagram. The place is away from the Donau-Auen and the mouth of the Kamp about 5 km.

The area of ​​the municipality covers 29.5 square miles, of which 6.9 percent is forested.

History

Worth seeing is the castle Thürnthal, a baroque - classicist building by Joseph Emanuel Fischer von Erlach. The municipality of rock was collected on March 27, 1927 to the market town. In World War II was in a rock airfield of the German Luftwaffe.

Religions

Roman Catholic parishes are in Fels am Wagram and Gösing am Wagram.
