Ferdinand Büchner

Ferdinand Buchner ( born December 13, 1823 in Pyrmont, † 1906 in Moscow ) was a flautist and composer.

Life

Ferdinand Buchner began at an early age the flute studies with his father, who played a leading role in the musical life of Bad Pyrmont. He subsequently studied with the flutist Christian Heinemeyer. At the age of 13, he came into London with great success for the first time to the public. In 1847 he received an engagement in Berlin, where he remained for three years. In 1850 he traveled to Russia and took six years intensively in the musical life in St. Petersburg part. 1856 he was appointed principal flute at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow. He retained the position until shortly before his death. His excellent reputation as a soloist and teacher earned him the appointment as professor at the Moscow Conservatory by Nikolai Rubinstein, whose founder he was.

Work

Büchner was in the romantic tradition of virtuoso musician, composed the well. He wrote numerous pieces for flute, including eight concerts. As his best concert the concert applicable in F minor, Op 38, which is dedicated to the publisher Julius Heinrich Zimmermann.
