Ferdinand Gatzweiler

Ferdinand " Ferdi " Gatzweiler ( born June 2, 1955 in Stolberg ( Rhineland) ) is a full-time mayor of the town of Stolberg ( Rhineland) and member of the SPD.

Biography

Gatzweiler was born as the second of three children. After attending elementary school Grüntalstraße he went to the Goethe -Gymnasium. After completing class 11 he began in 1973 a management trainee at Stolberg. In 1978 he became department head in 1987, meanwhile the Diploma in Public Administration (FH ) is formed, deputy director of the Office of Sports, school administration and culture, of which he was in 1993. In 2001 he became the Youth Office.

According to the results of the local elections on 26 September 2004 where he competed for the first time, a runoff between the previous incumbent Hans -Josef Siebertz (CDU ) ( 38.9 %) and Ferdinand Gatzweiler ( 41.9 % ) was required. In the second ballot on 10 October 2004 Gatzweiler was elected with 58.7 % for Mayor.

About 5 years later, in the local elections of 30 September 2009, he was clearly confirmed with 47.7 % in office. His strongest challenger, Paul M. Kirch of the CDU, came to only 38.2 %. He was also the candidate of the local local branch of Alliance 90/The Greens, who had, in contrast to all other parties, situated not have its own candidate for mayor in the election campaign.

Gatzweiler is married since 1982 with Brigitte Gatzweiler, with whom he has a son.
