Ferdinando Cazzamalli

Ferdinando Cazzamalli (* 1887 in Crema, † 1958) was an Italian psychiatrist who strove for the scientific study of paranormal phenomena.

First director of a psychiatric clinic in Como, then a lecturer in psychiatry at the University of Modena, Cazzamalli introduced in the 20s, together with the electrical engineer Eugenio Gnesutta the mentally disturbed patients for physical examinations detectability of telepathy to. Using a specially developed for this purpose instrument for measuring ultrahochfrequenter waves he pursued the goal of explaining telepathic phenomena as electromagnetic effects of brain activity. In experiments with a radio receiver, which was enclosed in a Faraday cage, then he also succeeded in recording paranormal voice phenomena, which he thought he could be attributed to electromagnetic interference on the part of his subjects.

In 1937 he founded, together with the statistician John Schepis, the psychologist Emilio Servadio and the neuropsychiatrist Luigi Sanguineti the Società Italiana di Metapsichica (SIM), the first Italian Society for the systematic exploration of paranormal phenomena created by a decree of 23 May 1941, the official recognition of the fascist Italian state received and was renamed in 1955 in Italian Society Parapsicologia (SIP). In 1946 he founded the magazine Metapsichica as the official organ of the SIM However, due to ideological and methodological differences, it came this year to a serious rift with the SIM Cazzamalli stepped out with his group and founded in the same year, the Associazione Italiana Scientifica di Metapsichica ( AISM ), which continued the magazine Metapsichica under his direction and in Italy today, together with the established in Bologna in 1954 Centro Studi Parapsicologici (CSP ) to the one of the most important institutions in the field of parapsychology.
