Fernando Araújo Perdomo

Fernando Araújo Perdomo ( born 1955 in Cartagena, Colombia) is a Colombian lawyer, social scientists and politicians.

Araújo Perdomo, who comes from a wealthy family, was under the government of Andrés Pastrana in 1998 minister of economic development of his country until he was forced to resign due to a scandal uncovered. On December 4, 2000, he was kidnapped by leftist FARC guerrillas while jogging, held him for six years in the jungle as a hostage. The aim of the guerrilla group was force the release imprisoned comrades with the prominent politicians. Finally, on 31 December 2006 he was able to escape with a strong attempt by the Colombian armed forces by exploiting the general confusion of his " guards " and fled.

Two months after his escape appointed President Álvaro Uribe Vélez, who was himself under massive criticism, him on 19 February 2007 as the new Foreign Minister of Colombia as the successor of María Consuelo Araújo, who resigned earlier in the context of a larger political crisis office. On 16 July 2008 he resigned.
