Fernando Bujones

Fernando Bujones ( born March 9, 1955 in Miami, Florida, † November 10, 2005 ) was an American dancer and choreographer of international standing.

Life

Fernando Bujones was born in 1955 as the son of Cuban parents in Florida. He studied with the Cuban dancer Alicia Alonso and later at the American Ballet Theatre in New York.

Fernando Bujones was placed in a series with Rudolf Nureyev, Erik Bruhn, Vaslav Nijinsky and Mikhail Baryshnikov. In his 25-year career as a dancer, he worked in the most important opera houses in the world and its ballet, such as the American Ballet Theatre, the Royal Ballet in London, the Stuttgart Ballet, the Ballet of the Paris Opera, the Royal Danish Ballet, the La Scala in Milan, the Vienna State Opera Ballet, the Australian Ballet, The National Ballet of Canada, the Boston Ballet.

Bujones 1974 became the first American ever with a gold medal in the international competition of the world's best dancers in Varna ( Bulgaria). In his official farewell stage in 1995 at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, he received 20 -minute standing ovation and congratulations from President Bill Clinton.

By August 2005, Fernando Bujones led the Orlando Ballet in Florida. He died of skin cancer.
