Fernando Collor de Mello

Fernando Affonso Collor de Mello ( born August 12, 1949 in Rio de Janeiro) is a Brazilian politician. He was 1990-1992 President of the Federative Republic of Brazil.

Presidency

In November 1989, Collor de Mello won the runoff election for the presidency with 35 to 31 million votes against trade unionists and later President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. On March 15 he took office by the outgoing President José Sarney and was sworn in the capital Brasilia as 32nd President of the Federative Republic of Brazil.
