Fernando Corena

Fernando Corena ( born December 22, 1916 in Geneva, † November 26, 1984 in Lugano) was a Swiss opera singer. His voice was bass.

Life

He studied theology, but left after the advice of the conductor Vittorio Gui train his voice from E. Romani in Milan. In 1947 he made ​​his debut in Trieste as Varlaam in Boris Godunov and then sang quickly in numerous international opera houses. In 1953 he became a member of the Metropolitan Opera in New York. In 1965 he sang at the Salzburg Festival Osmin in Mozart's Abduction from the Seraglio. He became one of the most important bass of Italian opera buffa.

Mostly for Decca and RCA recordings have been released following total: Don Giovanni, Don Pasquale, The Italian Girl in Algiers, The Barber of Seville and Gianni Schicchi.
