Fernando León de Aranoa

Fernando León de Aranoa ( born May 26, 1968 in Madrid, Spain ) is a Spanish film director and screenwriter.

Life

Fernando León de Aranoa worked briefly at an advertising agency and broke his studies in Media Studies from to work as a screenwriter for television. After he was successful as such, he wrote screenplays for movies, were up with the short film Sirenas 1994 his directorial debut. For his first feature film, Familia, he was awarded the Goya for best young director. In 1998 his second feature film with Barrio, for which he was awarded two Goyas and the Silver Shell of the Festival Internacional de Cine de Donostia- San Sebastián. As a screenwriter, he contributed to the book of the Mexican film La ley de Herodes and received in 2000 the Premio Ariel. The international breakthrough came in 2002 with the multi-award- winning drama Mondays in the Sun.
