Fernando Platas

Fernando Fabricio Platas Álvarez ( born March 16, 1973 in Mexico City) is a former Mexican diver. He started in the art of jumping from 1 -meter and 3 -meter board and in the 10 -meter platform diving as well as in the 3- m and 10 -m synchronized diving. He won several medals at Olympic Games, World Championships and Pan American Games.

Platas participated in four Olympic Games. In Barcelona in 1992 he reached the 3 -meter board rank 17, in Atlanta in 1996, he qualified for two finals, the 3 -meter board, he was eighth, the 10 - m tower seventh. In Sydney in 2000, he won the 3 -meter board the silver medal in 3 -meter synchronized diving he was with Eduardo Rueda fifth. In 2004 he took part in Athens for the last time. He reached from the 3 -meter board in fifth place.

At World Swimming Championships Platas participated five times in total, for the first time in Rome in 1991. He won the 2001 Fukuoka silver medals in both synchronous competitions of 3 m with Joel Rodriguez and 10 m with Eduardo Rueda.

Platas ended his playing career after the Olympics in 2004.
