The Fernstein is a small mountain lake at the Fern Pass in the municipality of Nassereith in Tyrol. It is located at 934 meters altitude. The lake is 550 meters long and up to 540 meters wide, and has in the Southeast and the Northeast depths up to 17 meters. The total area of the lake is 182 222 m². Of this, 140 824 m² on the water surface and 41 398 m² on the island.

This converted to a hotel Fernstein castle is located on the western shore of the lake at the Fern Pass road (B 179). In Fernstein on an island formed by a Tomahügel are the ruins of the hunting lodge Sigmundsburg whose construction is dated before 1462.

Under the surface there is a fairytale landscape. Many fish, bizarre trees and crystal clear waters invite you to varied dives. The owner of the lake requires that divers have a minimum of 80 documented dives and stay at least two nights in the hotel Fernstein.
