Ferran Olivella

Fernando Olivella Pons ( born June 22, 1936 in Barcelona ) is a former Spanish footballer. The defender, who spent his entire professional career at FC Barcelona, won in 1964 as captain of the Spanish national team, the EM.

Club career

Olivella came in 1954 by the youth team of FC Barcelona to the second team of FC Barcelona to SD España Industrial. After two years he was promoted to the first team. He established himself at once as a regular player and came in his first season, 42 times used.

From 1963/64, Olivella played as a central defender, before he was primarily set up as a full-back. In 1964 he was appointed captain of FC Barcelona and led from then on, until his retirement in late 1969, the team as captain to the square.

Overall, he played for FC Barcelona 500 games, friendlies included, and scored a goal. His only goal was the time between the 6:0 8:0 win against UD Las Palmas on matchday 22 of the season 1959/60. With Barça he won in 1959 and 1960, the Spanish championship. He also won the Fairs Cup and four Spanish Cups three times.

National team career

Olivella denied on March 31, 1957 his first game for the Spanish national team 's 5-0 victory against Belgium. In 1964, he led Spain as captain for winning the European Championship. Olivella appeared in two games with the final against Hungary and the USSR. Two years later he took part in the 1966 World Cup Spain, came in a disappointing elimination in the first round but not used. Overall Olivella completed 18 caps for Spain.

In addition, he played 1966-1968 two games for the Catalan football team.
