Fertőszentmiklós
Fertőszentmiklós ( German: Sankt Niklaus on Lake Neusiedl, Croatian: Nikola ) is a Hungarian town in Győr- Moson -Sopron near the Austrian border and Lake Neusiedl ( Fertő ).
Name
The name means in German language about St. Nicholas at the bottom ( Fertő literally means swamp, the Fertő to is the Hungarian name of Lake Neusiedl ).
Geography
Fertőszentmiklós is located in the Little Hungarian Plain in the river Ikva to about 140 m above sea level. The city is located about 25 km east of Sopron ( Sopron ) and 10 km west of Kapuvar. The Neusiedler See, in turn, is located about 8 km northwest of the city. In the immediate vicinity also Esterházy Palace is located in Fertőd, which borders the park to the city.
After the administration of the place belongs to the small area of Sopron Fertőd. Until the First World War was the Fertőszentmiklós County Sopron ( Sopron megye ) belonging.
Traffic
With the cities of Sopron, Kapuvar Csorna and the place is connected by highway 85. The railway line Sopron - Gyor - Sopron the same Raab - level Further Eisenbahn AG ( Raaberbahn / GySEV ) has Fertőszentmiklós in a northward branch to the Neusiedler Seebahn to Neusiedl am See ( Burgenland ) and an abandoned southward branch to Celldömölk.
The place has the airfield Meidl Airport.
