Festa del Redentore

The Festa del Redentore ( Redeemer hard ) or simply Redentore is a celebration to commemorate the liberation of the longest plague that experienced Venice, and which lasted from 1575 to 1577. The celebration takes place every year since on the 3rd Sunday in July. For a similar reason, out of gratitude for the deliverance from the plague of the years 1630 to 1631, takes place the Festa della Madonna della Salute on November 21, respectively.

By order of the Republic of Venice from September 4, 1576 a church for the Redeemer ( Redentore ) was to be built, the Redentore church. Since 1577 celebrations are occupied. Today, a boat bridge over the Giudecca canal is placed that connects the Zattere with the Chiesa dello Spirito Santo on the Giudecca.

On Friday concerts are held. The opening on the following day is the blessing by the Patriarch of Venice on the steps of the Redentore Church, once the 330 m long bridge around 19 clock completed and is open for the procession participants. The procession leads to the Giudecca. The procession join trade fairs.

On the Bacino di San Marco a firework is ignited has already been done in half an hour before midnight, to gather hundreds of boats. Here, a sumptuous supper is taken; followed by concerts in St. Mark's Square. The following day three traditional regattas that will open the youngest, follow those zweirudrige Pupparini, this in turn zweirudrige gondolas. On Sunday night at 19 clock, a fair is held under the leadership of the Patriarch.
