Ordinary red fescue ( Festuca rubra)

The Ordinary red fescue ( Festuca rubra) is part of the Red Fescue group ( Festuca rubra agg. ) Within the grasses ( Poaceae ).

System

We distinguish the following sub species in Germany:

  • Festuca rubra subsp. rubra
  • Festuca rubra subsp. juncea = rushes red fescue ( Festuca unifaria ) sensu E. Patzke GH & Loos 2000
  • Festuca rubra subsp. litoralis = salt marsh red fescue ( Festuca salina ) sensu E. Patzke GH & Loos 2000
  • Festuca rubra subsp. pruinosa; by Dengler 2000 is not of Festuca rubra subsp. juncea to separate (quote: "According to STACE ( 1997: 846 ) can this subspecies not separate ssp juncea, which then would be the older and provide valid name. ").

Are referred to in the literature other clans. The systematic ranking of most species, subspecies and varieties, however, is still unclear.

Description

The Ordinary Red fescue is a perennial Hemikryptophyt, the growth heights between 15 and 100, sometimes reached 120 centimeters. It grows with streamers ( rhizomes ) loose to dichtrasig. The ribs of the leaf surfaces are hairy or rough maximum fluffy. There is a lack on the top Sklerenchymbündel, on the bottom, they are in limited groups. The spikelets reach 6.5 to 11 millimeters in length. The lemmas are 4-7 millimeters long.
