With the name of flints a double peak in the central main ridge of the Stubai Alps is called, which lies exactly on the border between Italy, autonomous province of South Tyrol and Austria, Tyrol. A distinction is made between the eastern flint (Italian: Montarso di Levante, the northeast ), a height of 3268 m above sea level. A. owns and the 3245 -meter-high Western Feuerstein ( Montarso di Ponente, located south-west ). The two summits are connected by a 400 meter-long ridge with a small Einschartung. The flints are easily accessible from the Bremer Hut and the Nuremberg hut, have little difficulty with an ascent and are therefore popular viewing targets. To the north, south and west distinctive ridges extend. First ascents

The flints were committed on the occasion of the First Austrian Katastralvermessung to 1855. The first tourist commission of the West summit took place according to the literature on 14 September in 1869 by the historian Julius Ficker, led by Pancrazio Gleinser Pfurtscheller and Andrew. The eastern summit was probably long ago conquered by hunters, the first tourist here was a wooden man from London in 1871, who set out from Pflerschtal. Another inaccurate indication of the first ascent is: One of the two flints was climbed by Austrian botanist Anton Kerner von Marilaun on September 2, 1870.

Location

The flints are about seven kilometers south of a straight line Ranalt in the Stubai Valley, and about five kilometers north of Maiern in Ridnauntal, a tributary west of Sterzing. The double peak is completely surrounded by glaciers. In the north, the Grüblferner extends to a height of over 3000 meters, in the southeast of up to 3100 meters altitude reaching flint Furthermore, and finally, in the southwest is the slope end addition. Adjacent Mountains are in the course of the Nordostgrats Pflerscher Hochjoch with 3166 meters of altitude, in the southeast of the 3196 meter high Agglsspitze and to the west the High Wall ( 2973 m).

Bases and routes

The path of the first ascent in 1869 led by the northern, now dilapidated Grüblalm in a southerly direction up to the main ridge, then down the slope and over the ends Furthermore Magdeburg saddle and over the south ridge to the summit after 5 ½ hours walk. This way to the western summit requires climbing skills in difficulty UIAA II

The normal route to the Eastern flint leads from the north to the summit of the eastern flint. As bases Bremer hut serve on 2413 meters above sea level, situated north-east of the summit in the rear Gschnitztal or the Nürnberger Hütte ( 2280 m) in the rear Vallelunga. From the Nuremberg hut one way southbound to Nuremberg saddle leads ( 2914 m). Below the pass, it goes in a south-easterly direction over the Grüblferner ( high tour with proper equipment and experience ) to the far top corner of the 30 ° inclined Firnfelds to the summit of the eastern flint. The Gratbegehung to the Western flint consists of easy climbing in, according to the literature, difficulty UIAA I. The walking time is 4 hours away from Nuremberg's cottage and 4 ½ from the Bremer Hut. An alternative route leads from the Italian ( South Tyrol ) page from the village of Ridnaun on riser # 9 and 9a over Aglsbodenalm, Aglsalm and Pfurrnsee to Magdeburg saddle and from here as the first ascent via the south ridge to the summit of the western flint. This way to the western summit requires climbing skills in difficulty UIAA II
