Projects and initiatives

At the FH Joanneum emphasis is placed on practical training, so there is in all programs, large and small practical projects. Also, the FH participates in a wide variety of initiatives in higher education.

Projects

  • One of the biggest projects with students participation is the " joanneum racing team ." Construct Every year, build and commercialize Students of " automotive engineering ", " industrial design ", " information design ", " Electronics & Technology Management ", "Production Technology and Organisation ", " Journalism & Public Relations " "and" physiotherapy " a whole car. The infrastructure such as workshop and test facilities are available in the FH. Anchored is the project in the course " Automotive Engineering " and is supported by sponsors. By car, then take them to the part "Formula Student" and other FSAE competitions. The greatest successes are the overall victory at the 2006 Formula SAE Italy and the third overall ranks in 2007 at Hockenheim and at the Formula Student UK 2008 at Silverstone. With these successes, the team is among the most successful in Europe.
  • Another student project are the magazine " blank" and its companion website that will be created each year by students of " Journalism and PR ". For other media productions cameras, audio recorders, tripods and microphones can be borrowed.
  • The participants of the study courses " Aerospace / Aviation ", " information design ", " industrial design " and " automotive engineering " are also involved in projects in the field of " Green Mobility ". In practical projects, they contribute new ideas and developments. They are supported by companies from the automotive industry.

The development of a drone ( UAVs) for civilian operations fall within the range of green mobility.

Initiatives

  • Each year the FH Joanneum in part to the Children Graz, within which children can participate in various child-friendly workshops and lectures.
  • Since 2003, the Graz Linux Days will be held in the premises of the FH Joanneum annually.
  • In 2010, the location Bad Gleichenberg FH JOANNEUM was awarded the Sustainability Award of the Federal Ministry for Science and Research and the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and appointed by the Austrian UNESCO for the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development project.
  • In 2011, the location Bad Gleichenberg FH JOANNEUM acquired as the first university of applied sciences in Austria, as well as the first academic institution, the Austrian Ecolabel for extracurricular education establishments.

Teaching

The FH Joanneum in teaching has three priorities:

  • Didactic training
  • An English modules
  • Teaching with web support.

Since the winter semester of 2010, all teachers must regularly attend a mandatory didactic training in order to keep the teaching methods up to date and to be able to convey the contents as well as possible. As an incentive created by the FH Joanneum the " Teaching Award ", which every year teachers to be excellent .. Another issue is teaching in English. On the one hand, there are courses that are offered completely in English, on the other hand is trying to hold courses in English to prepare for English-language works.

There is a separate research facility for teaching with the support of e-learning and other Web applications at the FH Joanneum. But addition to the research activities with the students, it is also strongly to the practical integration of different tools in everyday student life. Since autumn 2010, the FH Joanneum Moodle used as an e -learning platform to provide students teaching materials and to some extent literature.

Research

Research priorities are:

International Economic

  • International Business Development
  • Management and communication

Information, Design & Technologies

  • Green Mobility and Green Technologies
  • Info -and edutainment
  • Safety and Security

Life, Building, Environment

  • Energy-efficient technologies
  • Resource-saving Urban and Regional Development

Health Sciences

  • Diagnostic and Therapeutic Research, Activity and Participation
  • EHealth
  • Public health and health systems

Research centers of excellence

Many of the courses have competency centers where they start in their respective research projects, mostly with student participation. Large -scale multi-year projects are also undertaken; they deal mostly with the core issues of the FH Joanneum, so with future topics such as Green Mobility, web competence or the habitats of the future.

Research Projects

  • The department of " Life, Building and Environment" research within the framework of the project " Ecotopia " at the city of the future. Retrieved from " Architecture and Construction " about " energy. Transport and environmental management "to" social work " involved a total of five courses. Social, environmental and economic sustainability in housing, traffic design and use of resources are the focus of the question. At various levels - from the city planning to the youth literature - try the research team to find solutions for the urban development of the future. In the Children Graz 2010, the students and teachers also granted to young researchers insights into their work and a possible " city of the future ".
  • With " ballad", a charging station, the FH deepened their research activities in the field of Green Mobility. The idea is that around 13,500 payphones which are in Austria yet, but are hardly needed to be converted into electricity dispensers. This is one of the obstacles to the widespread use of electric cars - the missing tank infrastructure - are out of the way. The courses " Advanced Electronic Engineering" and "Electronics & Technology Management ", the research on the project, develop the hardware and software for the current column itself benefits to the charging point network the growing number of electric vehicles and electric moped riders.
  • In the fall of 2010 launched the ZML - Innovative Learning Scenarios and the program " Journalism and PR " the three-year research project " Web Literacy Lab". Here is researched, which media skills - especially Webkompetenzen - companies and organizations should have, how they can develop these and teach her staff and how they can be implemented efficiently in everyday communication. Researches are aligned to national and international companies in various industries. Among other things, the readability of text on various mobile devices (eg iPad, WeTab, Galaxy Tab) is tested here. The aim is to develop and present training concepts and the associated training materials and methods catalogs.

Research institutions

At the FH Joanneum there are also two research institutions outside of the individual courses of study:

The " ZML - Center for Innovative Learning Scenarios" develops learning scenarios based on the support of technology and web applications. These include, for example, communication in networks or 3D simulations. The latter are, for example, important for professions that involve in the real exercise of great dangers, such as dealing with chainsaws and fire extinguishing systems. By simulating persons who are still in training can practice such dangerous scenarios before they are exposed to the reality of such a situation. In ZML but also e-learning scenarios to be explored. These are especially relevant for job studies that have experienced in recent years a kind of boom. In this case, the ZML employed, for example, with the ease of use of different surfaces (usability) or with the " learning through computer games," in which, in various projects, the effect of educational games is studied on the PC.

The "Institute for Technology and Society " deals with current social developments. For a while the challenges are analyzed, the face of the economy in a globalized world. Emphasis is placed on practical perspective value. On the other social problems are explored, resulting in the social reality of a globalized world or arose. Work is underway to make the causes of social and economic phenomena such as unemployment, poverty or discrimination to understand and find solutions for it.

Internationally

The Department of International Relations has several areas of responsibility. Firstly, it takes care of all exchange students from the University of Applied Sciences ( to study or internship) go abroad (outgoings ) or from abroad to the FH come ( incoming students ). This includes international students and faculty. It also acts as a contact point for the partner universities. We organize courses for German as a foreign language, and held events and trips. Furthermore, the International Department at the internationalization of teaching advises goes. Here play themes such as intercultural communication a role.

Partner universities
