Fiat G.2

The Fiat G.2 was a passenger plane from the Italian manufacturer Piaggio Aero Industries, which was designed by Giuseppe Gabrielli.

History and construction

The G.2 was a big step for the Fiat Group since it was her first cantilever low-wing monoplane. The machine was completely metallbeplankt up on the fabric-covered rudder. The spur wheel landing gear was not retractable, but disguised. The aircraft was powered by three Fiat A.60 - piston engines, one in the bow and the other two were mounted on the wing leading edges. The incorporation of various other engines would have been possible. The enclosed passenger cabin could seat six people. The prototype first flew in 1932. Though G.2 was a promising design, they could not be produced in series. The only built machine was initially of the Avio Linee Italiane airline on the route Turin - Milan used, then sold to VARIG and then delivered to the airline ASA, of which it was used until 1946 as a mail plane.
