FIBA Africa Championship 1983

The basketball Africa Cup of 1983, the twelfth basketball Africa Championship, took place between the 19 th and December 28, 1983 held in Alexandria, Egypt, which hosted the championship for the fourth time. Winner was the national team of Egypt, which was able to win the fifth time the title. In the final, Angola could be beaten. For the first time took a team from Liberia in the tournament.

In the Preliminary Round ( Group A and B) was played on five teams into two groups. Each team played against each other exactly once, so that each team exactly four (Group A ) Games ( 20 games in total were completed ) completed. Pro victory, there were two points for a defeat at least one point. The two highest point totals moved into the semi-finals. In case of equality of the Direct Comparison decided. As in Group A Angola won against Algeria, Algeria against the Central African Republic and the Central African Republic against Angola, the relative goal average decided from these three games. Since Angola 4 had the best goal average, it moved along with Egypt, which played against the Ivory Coast, the semi-finals and played there against Senegal.
