Fiddle-Yard

A Fiddle Yard (English " farm to messing around ") is a typical element of the layout but British tradition; it represents "the world outside ". This area is deliberately not overly designed model, but is intended to allow any manual intervention. The goal is a simple, unobstructed reassortment of trains by hand.

Concept

This concept of manual intervention option distinguishes the fiddle yard of a shadow station, although it is also invisible, and therefore not designed model standard is where the trains but on their own - often automatically - be driven: The Fiddle Yard allows each train composition, and makes this possible in a delightfully simple, cost-effective and space-saving way. Locomotives or individual cars are there simply lifted by hand and used on another site; one saves more elaborate maneuvering, for this is also the space is needed. The trains can sometimes go in dockartige container and taken as a whole, rotated or replaced by other trains.

It is important to clear visual separation from the rest of the system; often the fiddle yard for the viewer is placed invisibly ( for example, on the back). He also can be separated by the link next to the plant or its part are interesting and durchgestaltetem. It is then achieved through a tunnel; often enough, the concealment of the opening in the backdrop of trees, houses and the like (especially with dioramas like structure in which the plant is only viewed from one side ). This is mainly used for storage and retrieval systems.

Construction

A fiddle yard can be constructed in several ways:

  • Trough -like, free on a plate movable containers that are plugged into the entrance track.
  • Multiple tracks that can be approached via a track ladder with turnout or a flexible piece of track.
  • An often manually operated turntable used to turn the locomotive or whole train.
  • One or more sliding platforms allow the lateral displacement of the locomotive or any part of the train.
  • An elevator allows space-saving vertical displacement of the sets in a vitrine -like suspension.
