FIDE Grand Prix

The first Grand Prix under the auspices of FIDE took place from 2008 to 2010. A similar competition, hosted by the Grand Masters ' Association Grand Master Association ( GMA), there were 1988 to 1989 under the name of Chess World Cup 1988/89. The second competition began in 1991, but was canceled due to organizational difficulties after only one tournament.

Since 2009 there is also a FIDE Grand Prix of women. The Women's World Cup has been held since 2010 alternately in the knockout system and as a duel instead, the challenger is determined for the corresponding duel through the Grand Prix.
