FIDE Women's Grand Prix 2011–12

The FIDE Grand Prix Women 2011-2012 was a series of six chess tournaments in which the challenger for the duel held as World Chess Championship for women in 2013 was determined against the winner of the Knockout World Chess Championship for women in 2012.

The tournament series was won by the former world chess champion Hou Yifan, runner-up was K. Humpy. Since Hou Yifan lost her title in 2012 to Anna Uschenina, it is set as a challenger against them. If Hou Yifan would have won again in 2012, Humpy the challenger K. Hou Yifan would have instead.

Tournaments

There were six round robin tournaments, in each of which 12 of the 18 participants competed, so that each participant was allowed to contest four tournaments. A points system (see table) was determined with the string result, the overall winner. Additionally, there was prize money totaling 40,000 euros per tournament and an additional 60,000 euros for the top nine players in the overall table.

With the same placement points were divided accordingly. Thus, for example, was a shared 1st - 2nd Place each worth 160 130 / 2 = 145 points. The points were awarded for each tournament in which a player participated fully.

Were eligible to participate:

  • All four semi-finalists of the World Chess Championship for women 2010: Hou Yifan, Humpy K., Ruan Lufei and Zhao Xue
  • The winner of the FIDE Grand Prix Women 2009-2010: Hou Yifan (since it was already qualified, instead, a sixth- place rating was awarded)
  • Six ( instead of five ) players with the highest Elo ratings, on average, between July 2010 and January 2011: Judit Polgár ( rejected, thereby drew the seventh -placed Viktorija Cmilyte by ), Tatiana Kossinzewa, Antoaneta Stefanova, Nadezhda Kossinzewa, Anna Musytschuk, Kateryna Lahno
  • Two nominated by Kirsan Ilyumzhinov FIDE President players who had to be among the 40 players with the highest Elo ratings in January 2010. The players had to come from different states: Zhu Chen and Batchujagiin Möngöntuul
  • A nominee from each host city with an Elo rating of at least 2300 or, if not possible, by the appropriate federation with an Elo of at least 2250: Ekaterina Kovalevskaya (Rostov -on-Don ), Ju Wenjun ( Shenzhen), Alexandra Kosteniuk ( Nalchik ), Alissa Galljamowa ( Kazan ), Elina Danieljan ( Jermuk ) and Betül Cemre Yıldız (Ankara )

Overall table

There have, on a String result, the top three rankings of the four tournaments each participant. The overall competition was won by Hou Yifan before K. Humpy.

If set players did not participate, the places were filled with other players.
