Fidelma Macken

Fidelma O'Kelly Macken ( born February 28, 1945) is an Irish lawyer and former judge at the European Court of Justice.

After graduating from high school in the 1960s undertook quirks a three-year world tour that led her to Australia, the Philippines, Hong Kong, South and Central America. She lived and worked occasionally with a lawyer in San Francisco and Washington, which influenced her career choice long term.

Macken studied at King 's Inns and at Trinity College, Dublin and in 1972 admitted to the bar in Ireland.

Between 1973 and 1979 she worked for patent and trademark attorneys. In 1979 she was barrister, Senior Counsel in 1995 and was also a member of the Bar of England and Wales. As a lawyer, she specialized in the defense of pharmaceutical and medical liability lawsuits. In a number of cases they acted as lawyer for a manufacturer of pertussis vaccines to ward off claims for damages of children for alleged vaccine damage.

In 1998 she was appointed Judge of the High Court in Ireland. From 6 October 1999 to 13 October 2004, she held the office of judge at the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg. On her return to Ireland Fidelma O'Kelly Macken on 18 October 2004 was appointed Judge of the Supreme Court.

She is a lecturer in Legal Systems and Methods and ' Averil Deverell - " Lecturer in Commercial Law at Trinity College in Dublin and Bencher ( Member of the Board ) of the Honorable Society of King's Inns.
