FileZilla

FileZilla is a set of computer programs for file transfer via FTP and SFTP. It is offered as a free software for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux.

Versions

FileZilla client

FileZilla Client is running on the operating systems Linux, Mac OS X, Windows XP or higher. The program supports the network protocols FTP and SFTP. It is free software and is licensed under the GPL. The upload and download can be controlled via drag and drop.

The source code of FileZilla and its translations for the most common operating systems are provided at SourceForge. SourceForge FileZilla lifted in November 2003, especially out by the program was named Project of the Month. Since version 3.0.4, the use of FTP proxy servers is possible.

Up to version 3.0.9 Windows NT and 2000 were supported. The precompiled files for Mac OS X set Mac OS X 10.5 ( Leopard) requires 10.4 (Tiger) and older require manual compilation.

Security

The problem is that the FileZilla client credentials for the FTP server stores on each FTP connection on the client computer. These credentials are (among user name and password ) is stored in XML files in plain text so that they can be easily spied by third parties or by malicious software.

FileZilla Portable
