Filippo Strozzi the Elder

Filippo Strozzi ( born July 4, 1428 Florence, † May 14, 1491 ibid ), called il Vecchio, the elder, was a Florentine merchant from the patrician family Strozzi.

Filippo Strozzi was the son of Matteo Strozzi and Alessandra Macinghi was banished by the Medici and gained wealth and influence as a merchant and banker in Naples. He commissioned after his return to Florence in 1489 by Benedetto da Maiano with the construction of the Palazzo Strozzi, its completion in 1534 he did not live. Maiano also created the tomb of Filippo Strozzi in the Strozzi Chapel of the Basilica of Santa Maria Novella, which was completed in 1502.
