Filter (aquarium)

An aquarium filter is a water filter that has the task to purify the water of an aquarium so that solid auszufilternde waste materials are retained and degraded. After purification of the water it is recirculated to the tank. A longer -used ( retracted ) filters, whose filter materials microorganisms have settled, also supports which takes place in the aquarium nitrogen conversion in which the toxic ammonia is converted into harmless nitrate.

Lovers of Aquariums ( aquarist ) are a number of different filter types to choose from. When selecting the size of aquarium and place options play a role. People who maintain an aquarium for the first time, usually opt for an internal filter. External filters are considered to be more effective and easier to maintain. Another advantage is that it can also affect the water levels in the desired manner in the external filter by the choice of filter material. Then the pH of the water can be lowered by the addition of peat. Occasionally use aquarists even different filter types simultaneously. A great drawback of external filters is that the water leaves the tank.
