History

The Harps were established in 1954, the first year they played in low leagues. In 1968/69 it was ireland widely known as they won the FAI Junior Cup, Irish Cup for teams in the lower leagues and also in the Intermediate Cup, the mittlerern Irish Cup, achieved some success. This came in the club with the idea to apply for the League of Ireland. They were taken for the season 1969/70, lost their first match against Shamrock Rovers with 2:10, so that immediately stood her whereabouts in the league in question. But the Harps were able to quickly establish itself in the 1970s as one of the better clubs in the League of Ireland; They finished each season of the 70's in the top half of the table; while they were able to qualify even three times for the UEFA Cup, but failed always in the first round. In 1974 came the greatest hour of club history with a 2-1 in the final against St Patrick's Athletic won the Harps Irish Cup. 1974 and 1975 they were also, albeit ultimately unsuccessful, in the League Cup final of the League of Ireland.

The 1980s then saw the decline of the club, in 1985 they were consistently downgraded in the division of the League in the lower First Division. After eleven years of being second class was not until 1996, the promotion to the Premier Division. In the short recovery period around the turn of the millennium, the second part in the finals fell by the Irish Cup; the Harps lost after two draws in the third game 2-1 against Bray Wanderers. But already in 2001 /02 is increased again. 2005 Harps were again top notch for exactly one year.
