Breeding history

The Finn horse has its origin in the so-called Klepper, a form of house horse, which was located in the entire Baltic Sea region. By 1900 most of the horses in the race were still seen as Finnish Klepper, the division into the different types of horse Finn came only in the 20th century. The small type of horse is the original Klepper type.

1907 Studbook was established on registration of stallions, the average shoulder height was 153 cm. 1920 Zugpferdetyp was separated from the lighter universal types, which was used as riding and trotting horse. Since 1970, the National Confederation of racing and horse breeding in Finland ( Hippos ) performs the root directory, which also introduced the division into four different types. For registration in the studbook exist stringent performance tests, depending on the type of train, racing and riding tests.

Today, more than three quarters of Finnhorses the type of Trotter, second are the horses, the original Klepper type and the driving force are numerically declined sharply. The Finn horse in trotting type has always been considered the fastest cold-blooded trotter in the world, in the selection of this type, special emphasis is placed on performance.
