Finnskogen

Finnskog is a region in the southeastern province of Hedmark in Norway, which continues behind the Swedish border.

The area is a large forest area on both sides of the border. Geographically, it can by the river Glomma in the West ( Norway) and the Klar-river in the east (Sweden) are bounded, and by the municipality Eidskog in the south and the Reichsweg 25 in the north.

Finnskog means Finn Forest and moved to its name by Finnish immigrants who came in the 16th and 17th centuries here. The emigrants are called Forest Finns ( Skogfinner ) and today is a recognized minority in Norway. Centers of Finnish culture are the municipalities Grue and Åsnes.
