Fire accelerant

Accelerants are flammable chemical substances (usually liquids ) which shall be used to put little flammable things on fire or not alone burn burning things. Primarily, these are liquids such as ethanol ( alcohol ), gasoline or similar, which are cast on the abzubrennenden items.

The term " accelerant " is mainly used in police reports of crimes ( see arson ) - even if without the " accelerator " a fire would not be possible if accompanied by about a dead body to be burned.

The reliable detection of the possible use of accelerants is done by forensic investigations using gas chromatography / mass spectrometry.
