Fire damper
The fire damper is a component for installation in ventilation ducts within walls and ceiling and away from walls ( with fire protection casing). It is an automatic shut-off device to prevent the spread of fire and smoke through the ventilation duct connected at both ends to the flap.
Use
A fire damper is a safety component. Fire dampers are installed for reasons of fire protection between fire compartments in walls and ceilings. In normal operation, the fire damper is opened to allow air passage. It closes automatically in case of fire, thus preventing the spread of fire and smoke. Fire dampers are classified in accordance with EN 13501-3 due to conducted fire tests ( EN 1366-2 ). In Germany, a certification by the German Institute for Building Technology ( DIBt) is necessary. The use is governed by the provinces by the building code implementation of the pattern -ventilation system Directive (M- LüAR ).
Types
Fire dampers are round and square available in the designs. Circular fire dampers are available in unified dimensions by the manufacturer. Rectangular fire dampers can be ordered in any size within the respective approval. The lengths are available but each set.
Function
Fire dampers can be operated differently. The classic fire damper closes spring operated via fusible ( triggering at approx 72 ° C). There are also motorized fire dampers and valves with retaining or pulsed magnet and pneumatically operated valves available. In general, a switch is grown as feedback for triggering the fire damper. Servo motors usually have two switch contacts, which can be monitored up and delivery. The return message is for information which fire damper has triggered and turns depending on the concept and the ventilation system off. In so-called smoke dampers the up and delivery are approached by a damper motor depending on the smoke extraction.
Additional security measures
- To prevent cold smoke transfer tripping over the fusible link (72 ° C) is not sufficient. Preferably, additional smoke detectors motorized fire damper is to trigger then intrude.
- When installing the valves necessary to ensure that inspections and maintenance of exterior and interior are possible. This is usually done through inspection port holes in the fire damper.
- Fire dampers must be checked at regular intervals by a competent person.
