The Firmisanschneide, also called Firmisanschneid, is a 3491 meter high mountain in the main crest of the Oetztal Alps in the Austrian state of Tyrol. The 55 ° inclined eastern flank of the mountain is glaciated, northeast, southeast and west, it has distinctive ridges. The Firmisanschneide was first climbed in 1870 by Father Franz Senn, the founder of the Alpine Club, and the German naturalist and chemist Ludwig Darmstaedter, under the leadership of Anselm Klotz.

Location

The Firmisanschneide located about 8 km air line southwest of Obergurgl, in the municipality of Sölden in the Ötztal. To the north of the mountain extends Firmisanferner, south of the Diem addition and east of the Gurgler addition. Adjacent Mountains are in the course of Nordgrats, separated by the 3251 meter high Spiegeljoch, the Rear Mirror Peak with 3426 meters and in the south, separated by the Firmisanjoch ( 3287 m), the 3540 meter high Schalfkogel. The long west ridge runs from the Viedertal.

Base and routes

The path of the first ascent led from Vent to the summit, the exact route, however, is not known. As a base for a tour of the Firmisanschneide today serves Ramolhaus at 3006 meters altitude. The normal route to the summit from the hut at first south-west over a large snowfield up to Spiegeljoch. From there the path over the rocky northeast ridge in runs, according to the literature, easy climbing in difficulty UIAA I in a walking time of three hours to the summit. Other routes are located in the east wall, the north flank (both challenging ice routes ) and at all other ridges, sometimes in difficult climbing up to UIAA grade III.
