History

In historical times, both the core and the fish country Darß and Zingst were islands. It was not until the closing of flood channels by humans in the 14th century (fish country and Darß ) and in the 19th century ( Zingst) she joined permanently to the mainland.

In the Baltic Sea storm flood in 1872, which also Prerow on the Darß far flooded, silted the Prerower stream of the former island Zingst separated from Darß until then. 1874 Prerow power was finally filled up and secured with a dike; Zingst thereby became a peninsula.

The eastern part of Zingst Peninsula and the central part of the Darß are part of the National Park Boddenlandscape.
