Fisetin is a yellow dye, as part of the oxidation product of the Fisetinidins to the group of flavonols and thus represents a derivative of chromene.

He comes in Smoketree (also Fisetholz, hence the name) before; from its Latin name Cotinus coggygria or Rhus cotinus the alternative name cotinine derived.

Properties

Dilute solutions of the substance in ethanolic sodium hydroxide show a dark-green fluorescence.

Biological Effects

Fisetin is slightly toxic and should have a mutagenic effect. It also reduces the toxicity of aflatoxins.

A study by P. Maher et al. shows that fisetin promotes the long-term memory.
