Fish measurement

The standard length, abbreviated SL, is a measure of Ichthyology and denotes the length of a fish from the front end of the animal to the base of the caudal fin. It is used as a reference measurement of the relative lengths of the body parts such as the head. Compared to the total length, TL abbreviated by English Total length, it is more reliable to determine because the tail fin often flexible or - is damaged - especially in conserved copies.
