Fissipedia

The land predators ( Fissipedia ) are for an outdated system one of the two suborders within the order Carnivora. In contrast to the water predators ( pinnipeds ), better known as seals, have land predators paws and never fins.

The classification of predators in terrestrial and aquatic predators follows a traditional scheme that has little to do with the real family relationships. According to current knowledge are the seals descendants of marten or kleinbärähnlichen predators and thus a sister group of bears. Land predators, however, are a plurality of independently arising groups, ie paraphyletic.
