Fjallavatn

The Fjallavatn [ fjadlavatn ] is 1.02 km ², the second largest lake in the Faroe Islands and is located on the island of Vágar. The area around the lake is one of the few protected areas in the country.

The lake is located north of Vágar in a secluded valley, where no car road, but only a footpath leads. The shortest route is from Vatnsoyrar north. The lake is about 2 miles long and is drained by the Reipsá which opens on the north coast by a 80 m high waterfall in the North Atlantic.

The trail of Gásadalur after Slættanes passes the lake at its northern side, while the path of Sørvágur after Slættanes on the southern shore passes and there intersect the path of Vatnsoyrar. As in the south Leitisvatn here is the char a common fish, which makes the lake attractive to anglers. On the north bank the larger specimens are caught.
