FL lines

FL- lines (until 2012 as FR - Ferrovie Regionali - ) constitute a system that comprises operated by Trenitalia suburban railways in the Rome metropolitan area and are integrated into the composite tariff Metrebus. It currently consists of eight lines, giving a variety of ways a regional traffic in the surrounding area.

Lines

The lines FL1, FL2 and FL3 are suburban trains, which run every half hour in rush hour and every fifteen minutes during low traffic time. In the urban area there are routes to the high station density, the lines FL2 and FL3 extend partially into the outer parts of the city in tunnels and act as a complement to the two metro lines. On these lines double-deck railcars are used that allow barrier-free entry. History

Due to the increasing car traffic in Rome, the Ferrovie dello Stato conducted on 15 April 1967 an urban railway operation ( servizio urbano ) on the way to Viterbo. The line had a length of 18 kilometers and ran between the stations Tiburtina and Monte Mario, with stops at Tuscolana, Ostiense, Trastevere and San Pietro, and the trip took about 40 minutes. The line was operated by diesel railcars of class ALn 668.1400. Later the line was extended to the station La Storta and expanded to include more intermediate stops.
