Flag of Bavaria

The two national flags of Bavaria, the Bavarian diamond flag and the Bavarian flag stripes in the national colors of white and blue.

The national flags

Although Bayern operated two national flags, it has no special service flag. The authorities are free according to the regulation, which is used of the two flags.

A fixed ratio of the width to the length is not specified for the two flags. As for the federal flag Germany a ratio of 3:5 is determined, this aspect ratio is usually applied at the Bavarian State flags. The blue color is not specified, it is recommended the color sky blue (RAL 5015 ).

On many flags the Bavarian coat of arms is displayed in various forms. However, this representation is not official and therefore unlawful, since the creation and organization of the state symbols are exclusively reserved to the legislature. The use but is tolerated.

The stripes flag

The Bavarian flag consists of two strips of equal width stripes in the national colors, the upper stripe white and the bottom is blue.

The diamond flag

The # flag is a coat of arms Banner of the small state coat of arms of Bavaria. The basic form contains at least 21 diamonds in the national colors white and blue, with the issues raised by the edges lozenges are included. For long and narrow flags, the number of diamonds may increase. In any case, the upper-right corner of the bunting is intended for a capped white diamond. This was confirmed by the Administrative Instruction of 16 February 1971.

In the flag the customer flags are described and illustrated from the front. In Bavaria, the description of the flag is based on heraldic rules. This means that the description is done from the plate carrier which is located behind the crest and in this case behind the flag. Thus, the retention of the Regulations of a capped white diamond top right corner of the viewer is left.

History

The white and blue diamonds, also called Awakening, originally came from the coat of arms of the Counts of Bogen, they were taken over by the Wittelsbach in 1242, the ruling family of Bavaria from the 12th to the 20th century. As of 1337, the Wittelsbach diamond used the flag as their symbol. After that there were different versions in which other elements were added to the flag, such as the Palatinate lion in the flag of the dukes of Bavaria -Landshut and Bavaria - Munich. An official flag of the state of Bavaria did not exist, only the rulers led a flag.

Only later the idea came up to use the blue and white flag as a symbol of the state of Bavaria, but all the national flags was unofficial and therefore not set by law. 1838 was first determined that the blue had to have a bright tone and on September 11, 1878 certain King Ludwig II for the first time that the flag of Bavaria should consist of two horizontal stripes, white over light blue.

Between April 4 and May 1, 1919 was the Munich Soviet Republic. She led a simple red flag, but after their defeat of the white-blue flag was reintroduced.

The state constitution from December 2, 1946 confirmed the country's colors white and blue, and on 14 December 1953, the strip flag and the hash flag were officially introduced.
