Flag of Bornholm

The flag of Bornholm is a regional flag represent the Danish island of Bornholm. However, there are different versions, of which so far no single form was officially recognized. Despite the strict flag law in Denmark it is not forbidden, instead of the Danish flag to hoist the flag for regional Bornholm. Most versions match the pattern of the Scandinavian cross flag, which is mostly used in the Nordic countries.

The flag of Bornholm is one next to the flag Ærø and the Vendelbrog, the flag of Vendsyssel, the only flags in continental Denmark, the mark in this way regional autonomy.

Bornholm Flag ( Turistflaget )

The best-known version, the flag of Bornholm (Danish: Det bornholmske flag ), which is also called "tourist Flag" ( Turistflaget ), has the same structure as the Dannebrog, the flag of Denmark. The white cross of the Danish flag was merely replaced by a green cross. The green color of the cross symbolizes nature on the island. The red primary color reminiscent of belonging to Denmark. The flag, which was at that time in competition with identical proposals to the flag of Greenland, was launched in the seventies by supporters of Bornholm self-government and the tourism industry. Today it is often used by German sailors in place of the Danish host country flag, the flag of the country in whose territorial waters of which a ship. Bornholm Flag ( Bornholmsflaget )

The equally popular Bornholm Flag ( Bornholmsflaget ), leads a white cross, which is covered with a green cross. It was designed in 1977 by Mogens Andersen and follows the model of the flag of Norway. Since it follows the heraldic rule according to which " heraldic colors " with a " metal " (white or yellow) should be separated from each other, the green cross stands clearly on the red background. The flag is used mainly in the north of Bornholm.

In further versions for a flag of Bornholm there are proposals, such as the flag competition in 1972. A draft saw a white cross on a red cross on a green background before. The flag of "free Bornholm " (Bornholm frit ), a proposal by Sigurd Green, saw a white base color with a green cross in front of a red cross. Erling Haagensens design from 2006 uses the Scanian flag with a golden dragon, the emblem of Bornholm, in the naval jack. Other flag designs are based on the Bornholm municipality coat of arms and its colors blue and yellow.

Bornholm flag days

The Danish Royal House and the Justice Department that are responsible for flagging in Denmark, have established no official flag days for the Bornholm flag. However, the following historical days are considered suitable to hoist the flag of Bornholm:

  • February 26, 1658 - Bornholm was ceded to Sweden in the Treaty of Brömsebro ( half-mast )
  • March 15, 1658 - Bornholm is formally ceded to Sweden ( half-mast )
  • March 29, 1658 - The Swedish commander Johan Printzensköld comes to Bornholm ( half-mast )
  • April 5, 1946 - The liberation of the Russian occupation of Bornholm
  • April 10, 1940 - The German Wehrmacht occupied Bornholm ( half-mast )
  • May 9, 1945 - Russian troops take Bornholm after two days of bombardment a ( half-mast )
  • December 8, 1658 - Johan Printzensköld is shot in Rønne.
  • December 29, 1658 - The Bornholm deed of gift to Frederik III, King of Denmark and Norway.
