Flag of Maryland
The flag of the U.S. state of Maryland was officially adopted in 1904.
Description
The flag of Maryland is the only flag of a U.S. state that is a true heraldry banner. It is based on the seal and the colors of the house of George Calvert, I. Baron Baltimore and is formed from the family coat of arms Calvert and Crossland, made up the coat of arms of Lord Baltimore, the founder and former " owner" of the colony.
Each branch of the family is represented by two quarters of the flag.

In 2001, a web vote of the North American Vexillological Association ( the North American customer Flag Association ) this flag was voted among the top ten flags of U.S. states and Canadian provinces to fourth place.
