History

The first mention of the red-white- blue tricolor dates from August 15, 1812, then she was raised in Asuncion with a coat of arms in the middle. It goes back to the year 1806, when the troops of Paraguay led white, blue and red flags as they rushed to the assistance of Buenos Aires against the invasion of the British. According to another version of the dictator José Gaspar Rodríguez de Francia led the flag one, inspired by the French tricolor, as he was an admirer of Napoleon.

In the meantime, other flags are mentioned. Thus, a flag was hoisted for the inauguration of the Congress on June 17, 1811, which bore the colors red, yellow and blue, and as an emblem of the coat of arms of the king. Other flags were a red-white- blue with wide median strip and a blue with a white star in the upper right corner.

The aspect ratio was changed several times. The coat of arms was changed in the years 1990 ( front) and 2013 ( front and back ).
